Local Foods Local Places

Local Foods, Local Places (LFLP) helps cities and towns across the country protect the environment and human health by engaging with local partners to reinvest in existing neighborhoods to develop local food systems. In the Summer and Fall of 2021, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) met with stakeholders from the East St. Louis area. They planned the LFLP workshop that took place in October in which organizational leaders and community members began an action plan for East St. Louis.

You are invited to drop markers on the map, comment on other markers, etc.

LFLP Goals

Goal 1: More producing and growing. Enable youth, individuals, and families to better interact with the local food system by scaling up and creating new opportunities for sustainable, community-based food production.

Goal 2: More learning, knowledge, and skills. Empower people to live healthier and more prosperous lives through events, programs, classes, and other community-based activities where people can learn, and develop knowledge and skills, about local food, nutrition, and active lifestyles.

Goal 3. Greater food access. Create and expand economic opportunities for residents of East St Louis to develop deeper community-owned access and assets of local, healthy, nutrient-rich food avenues.

Goal 4. Land Revitalization and Access. Increase local access to productive, safe, and clean land through identifying and remediating vacant land and soil and providing education on land access and stewardship.

Throughout the year, there will be networking events to participate in.
